From industry fundamentals to legal frameworks and commercial strategy, this curated list of the best cannabis industry books for professionals includes essential reads for newcomers and seasoned practitioners alike. With the global cannabis market evolving rapidly, these books offer in-depth perspectives that help you gain credibility, understand key industry concepts, and confidently engage with employers, investors and colleagues in this booming sector.
How this list was created
We, at Lumino, have had the pleasure of placing numerous rockstar candidates in some of the most well-renowned companies in this rapidly evolving cannabis industry.
Many of the candidates we’ve placed had no prior experience in cannabis – often with backgrounds in adjacent sectors such as FMCG or pharma. With their limited knowledge or exposure to the world of cannabis, we’ve helped prepare them for interviews (and their job once they landed it) by sharing with them cannabis industry must-reads and must-listens.
Having done this since 2018, we have narrowed down this list of resources and essentially built a directory that will help any newbie to the space hit the ground running.
As the cannabis industry continues to grow, we thought there was no better time than now to publicly share this compilation of the best cannabis books, cannabis news sites, and cannabis podcasts.

📚 Top 10 Cannabis Industry Books
If you do a quick online search, you’ll find no shortage of books about cannabis. However, many of them focus primarily on how to grow cannabis or on popular strains and visuals, similar to the classic coffee-table hardcover book.
Finding books that explore the business of cannabis, laws and regulations, or the science behind the plant and its medicinal properties is more challenging. When you do come across them, it’s essential to check the publication date. Books published before 2015–2020 often contain outdated information, as the cannabis industry has evolved rapidly in recent years due to new research, changing legislation and improved best practices.
For this reason, there is no single “perfect” cannabis book. That’s why we generally recommend learning about the industry through a variety of free, up-to-date online resources, such as newsletters, podcasts, how-to guides and educational articles.
That said, if you’re considering a career in the cannabis industry and want to add one (or several) well-chosen cannabis books to your reading list, the recommendations below will help you build knowledge and confidently engage with fellow industry professionals.

A visually rich guide to cannabis strains and their traits, presented in an accessible, coffee table format. It is particularly useful for those wanting to understand product language, consumer preferences and strain based branding in dispensaries.

A thorough breakdown of the legal, regulatory and financial challenges faced by cannabis operators. Although centred on the United States, it gives readers a strong grounding in governance frameworks that often mirror or influence European market design.
